Junior League Background
PGA Junior League Golf (PGA JLG) is designed to better socialize the game for boys and girls, ages 13 and under. PGA JLG features team vs. team competitions in structured leagues that provide a two-person scramble, match-play format.
Everyone plays a minimum of 6 holes depending on the number of players. This is a great way to get kids involved in the game!
Team versus team competitions consist of four 9-hole matches, four tee times. The format is two person teams, match play scramble. Matches are broken into 3 hole segments called Flags. This allows for substitutions between Flags giving every participant a chance to play.
Press Release - PGA Junior New Haven League 2013
League consists of four teams, Race Brook CC, New Haven CC, Tashua Glen at Tashua Knolls, and Great River GC. “I love this program because kids love to compete. This gives junior golfers an opportunity to compete without the pressure, because they know they have a partner and a team to back them up. They don’t want to let their team down so they really try hard,” says Jennifer Barnsley, PGA and LPGA Professional at Race Brook CC team and All-Star coach. “It also creates greater parent involvement and enthusiasm for their child’s golf develop.” Parent involvement includes serving as a coach, scorekeeper, team mom, or just driving them to the matches and being a spectator.
All the juniors regularly attend Race Brook’s junior program and most are members of the club.
A New Haven League All-star team
is chosen from each team in the regular season league to compete in local championships and hopefully advance to Regional Championship.
All-star teams have to win two local championships in August to participate in the Regional Championship.
The first round championship match is against the Coastal league (Hopyard, Clinton, Madison, Blackhall) on Sunday, August 14 at Race Brook CC O'Sullivan Course. The winner of that competition plays the winner of the all-star match between Hartford and Westfield in the CT Championship.
There are six Regional Championships across the country hosting a four team event using a round robin format. Race Brook Country Club O’Sullivan course hosted one of the the PGA Junior League Golf Regional Championships in 2013.
The Northeast region consist of Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Jersey. Four teams, with eight to ten players on each team, from the Northeast compete to participate in the 2016 Junior League Golf Championship at TBA on October 2016.

Junior Private Lesson Rates
Private lessons for junior golfers are usually for ages 13-18 years old getting ready to play on their high school team or are in high school and may be looking to play in college. By 13 years old, juniors wanting to play on their high school team are more serious (or should be more serious) about golf and have chosen golf as their main sport and are motivated to practice regularly. Taking private lessons is a way to improve faster and perform better in competition.

Junior Golf Club Rental Program
As you all know, kids grow, and in order for juniors to play their best and get the most enjoyment out of the game they need properly fit clubs.
The length, weight and grip size of the club is so important for the junior to be able to make the correct motion for a particular shot and not create bad habits that need to be corrected later. Buying clubs each year, or even some times twice a year if your child grows, can get expensive.
For $60 your child will be able to rent a set of fitted golf clubs for the 2016 season, and if your child has a growth spurt at some point in the season, they will swap the clubs out for the next size up. USKids Ultralight clubs come in different sizes depending on the juniors age and height.
The smallest sets for 6-9 year olds include 4 clubs (driver, 9 iron, hybrid and putter) and golf bag. Ten year olds and above include 8 clubs (driver, fairway, hybrid, 6 iron, 8 iron, pitching wedge, sand wedge and putter) and a golf bag. If you child fits into the heavier Tour Series clubs the rental fee is $120.
If you are going to participate in the program and want to get your child fitted for the clubs, please contact Jennifer Barnsley.
